Chondroitin is a naturally occurring substance in the body responsible for elasticity of cartilage - the tough, connective tissue that cushions the joints. Chondroitin attracts & holds large amounts of water to the cartilage-building proteoglycan molecules. Since cartilage has no blood supply, this fluid is necessary to nourish and lubricate joints. It may also block enzymes that break down cartilage and it provides the building blocks for the body to produce new cartilage. |
